Here are a couple of before pictures of Emma's crib. Since learning how to roll over and "Scoot" and becoming very proficient at both, Emma has been all over the place in her crib. Issac and I will put her to bed only to check on her several hours later and discover that she has done a 180. Since safety is of
immense importance to me, I knew it was time to remove the beautiful bumpers that I love so much from her crib. The safety concern with bumpers and a semi-mobile infant is this... Once an infant begins moving about in their crib at night, it is highly likely that they will move in a way that will cause their face to touch the bumper. Should a child
position themselves in this manner there is
heightened risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Doctors believe that in this case, SIDS occurs from the infants face being pressed against the bumper thus causing them to breathe in the same air they are breathing out which eventually causes a CO2 overdose. The safety
guidelines state that once your infant begins moving about in their sleep, the bumpers must go. Too bad for this Mommy because I adore her bedding and it just does not look the same without them. What can you do? Safety is much more important than home decor. I am just thankful for the
enormous amount of research I have done which has made me very
knowledgeable in many areas concerning infants,
especially safety. Even still, I must admit that I was quite sad to see the bumpers go. Just another reminder that my little girl is growing up.

These are the after pictures of her crib. No more bumpers.
